The 9th Annual St. John's Storytelling Festival
will be held October 27th to November 4th, 2012. The festival will be in Goose Bay, Labrador during October 27th-28th and in St. John’s from October 30th to November 4th. Please click here for biographies of storytellers, hosts and musicians for this year’s festival.

GOOSE BAY, LABRADOR

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27th
FROM HERE AND AFAR
{8 pm, Lawrence O’Brien Arts Centre, Voisey Dr.}
Anywhere you go, people are defined by their stories, find out why at this evening of tales from all over. An evening concert featuring visiting Storytellers Dave Paddon (St. John’s), Norma Cameron (Victoria, BC), and Ragnhild Mørch (Germany). Music performed by Richard Neville. $10 at the door.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28th
SPINNING A YARN
{8 pm, Lawrence O’Brien Arts Centre, Voisey Dr.}
Once upon a time, stories and songs were what kept communities going (and growing), join our storytelling community at this evening of stories, recitations and music with Katherine Pottle, Joe Goudie, Ben Powell, Dave Paddon, Norma Cameron, Ragnhild Mørch, Selby Mesher and more! $10 at the door.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30th
AN EVENING OF STORIES – TRICK OR TREAT
{7:00-8:30 pm, Admiralty House}
Norma Cameron will share stories from Scotland, Ireland and China, featuring cheeky fairies, tricky foxes, magic paintbrushes… and much more. So, if you want an entertaining evening that leaves you with a few stories tucked away for telling to others…then don’t miss this fun-filled evening. Free admission.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31st
STORY SLAM: SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET
{9 pm, The Ship Inn}
Hosted by Dale Jarvis and musical guest, Daniel Payne. A Story Slam is a contest of words; imagine a poetry slam format meets Canadian Idol, with a storytelling twist. Prize of $150. Presented in collaboration with the Folk Arts Society of Newfoundland & Labrador.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1st
COFFEE AND CULTURE
{2:30 pm at the Rooms}
Join Norma Cameron as she introduces you to many colourful characters as she paints a picture of the life and times of her Scottish Granny. Adults $7.50

STORYTELLING FROM AROUND THE WORLD
{3:30 pm, AC Hunter Library}
What do you have in common with kids and families everywhere? Marta Singh will let you know in these stories from all over. Children, ages 4 – 10. Free admission.

AN EVENING OF STORIES with Norma Cameron, presented by the St. John’s Women’s Centre

Join Norma Cameron for an evening of Stories. Coffee and cake will be served and a short question and answer session will follow. This show is free but space is limited. To book a seat, please call the Women's Centre: 753-0220.

NEW VOICES

People of all ages have important stories to tell, this is when we give some of our youngest storytellers their chance to shine featuring, Ellen Power (host), John Harris, Ella Clark, Lewis Fearon, Amelia Clarke and Tanner Ivany. $5 at the door.

MULTIPLICITY: A Solo Performance by Ragnhild Mørch
{9:00 pm at Rocket Bakery, 3rd floor, 272 Water Street}
A journey through the many faces of historical prejudice, gender identity, stereotypical thinking and language barriers. Dressed in verbal humour and precise physical timing, autobiographical anecdotes are mixed with myths and tales in an attempt to work against peoples urge to label others and oneself. $10 at the door.

FIVE MINUTE FRIDAY

What could you do with just five minutes? Our storytellers can delight, amaze or terrify you and leave you wanting more! With Chris Brookes (host), Anita Best, Ford Elms, Stella Mair Evans, Gary Green, Dave Paddon and Daniel Payne. $10 at the door.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3rd
WHEN THE BODY SPEAKS: A workshop with Ragnhild Morch
{1:00-3:00 pm at the MMaP Gallery Space – 2nd Floor, Arts & Culture Centre}
This workshop focuses on the physical presence of the storyteller on stage and looks at how the body communicates in its own right – with or without words. Cost: $20 Preregister at: storytellingstjohns@gmail.com

TALES OF MAGIC AND MYSTERY

It's time to get carried away! Join us for an evening of the not-quite-real that is sure to intrigue and delight. Featuring Mary Fearon (host), Norma Cameron, Ragnhild Mørch and Marta Singh. $10 at the door.

NUTTY NEIGHBOURS AND GLUTTONOUS GUESTS with Ragnhild Mørch

Would you like to have a titanic troll as your nearest neighbour? Or an unhappy pig that longs to live like you? Welcome to a show where anything can happen when Norwegian storyteller Ragnhild A. Mørch mixes modern-urban lifestyle with hairy fairy tales from Norway.
